“Headway Sussex was there for our family” – now she’s running to give back 💙

This September, an incredible supporter will be taking on one of the UK’s biggest running events – the Great North Run – to raise money for Headway Sussex. 💙

This challenge is deeply personal.

In 2018, her dad was knocked off his bicycle and sustained a brain injury that changed their family’s life forever. Although he made a remarkable physical recovery, he continues to live with the hidden effects of brain injury every day, including chronic fatigue, short-term memory difficulties, anxiety and changes to his thinking and emotions.

During his recovery, Headway Sussex became an important source of support. Through our support groups, helpline, counselling services and the opportunity to connect with others living with brain injury, he found understanding, encouragement and hope when he needed it most.

Today, he is proud to serve as a trustee of Headway Sussex, helping to guide the charity that supported him through one of the most challenging times in his life.

Now, his daughter is giving back too.

This September, she’ll be running 13.1 miles in the Great North Run – the furthest she has ever run – to raise vital funds and awareness for Headway Sussex.

Every year, around 350,000 people in the UK experience a brain injury. Many are left facing lifelong challenges that aren’t always be visible, and Headway Sussex is here to ensure no one has to face that journey alone.

Without donations, services like our support groups, helpline and counselling could be reduced or lost. That’s why this challenge means so much.
