This Friday we celebrate one of our founding members, Pam Marks BEM 💙

This Friday, Headway Sussex will be celebrating an extraordinary milestone as we honour one of our founding members, Pam Marks BEM, following her recent award of the British Empire Medal for a lifetime of voluntary service to communities across Sussex.

Pam’s story is woven into the very fabric of Headway Sussex.

More than 40 years ago, after her husband Bob sustained a severe brain injury, Pam discovered there was little support available for people living with acquired brain injury or the families caring for them. Determined that no one should face that journey alone, she joined forces with other families to establish what would become Headway Sussex.

From taking late-night phone calls from frightened relatives to creating support groups across Sussex and helping establish a dedicated day centre, Pam’s compassion, determination and vision laid the foundations for the charity we are today.

Thanks to her legacy, Headway Sussex now supports hundreds of people each year through our wellbeing activities, support groups, hospital liaison service, helpline and specialist community support.

Our staff, volunteers, trustees and invited guests will gather on Friday 10th July to recognise Pam’s incredible contribution and congratulate her on this well-deserved honour.

As we celebrate Pam’s remarkable achievement, we’re also reminded that the need for our services has never been greater.
