๐จ Healing Through Art: Why Creativity Matters After Brain Injury
Good Afternoon,
Over the past few weeks, our art classes at Headway Sussex have been alive with colour, creativity, and connection, and weโre thrilled to share some of the incredible pieces created by our clients.
For those living with brain injuries, art is more than a hobby, itโs therapy!
๐ง Did you know?
Art activates both hemispheres of the brain, helping to rebuild neural pathways and improve cognitive function. Research shows that creative activity can enhance memory, attention span, and problem-solving skills (all of which can be affected after a brain injury.)
๐จ Why it helps:
-
Encourages emotional expression when words are hard to find
-
Improves hand-eye coordination and motor skills
-
Builds confidence and reduces anxiety
-
Provides structure, focus, and social interaction
-
Creates a safe space for identity exploration and self-worth
Whether itโs bold abstracts, detailed landscapes or thoughtful collages, these artworks reflect the incredible progress and personal journeys of the people we support.
Your support allows us to run these therapeutic classes and bring colour back into peopleโs lives after brain injury.
If youโd like to keep the creativty going, feel free to donate below.
