£32,000 helps support our brain injury community
Clients, staff and trustees from Headway East Sussex and members of Haywards Heath Golf Club gathered for the official opening of the new, all-weather outside activity area.
Haywards Heath Golf Club members raised £32,000 for Headway East Sussex as its nominated charity.
All weather outside activity area
Some of the money has gone towards creating the new, all-weather outside activity area.
Claire Benson, Director of Rehabilitation and Reablement at Headway East Sussex, said: “We would like to thank Haywards Heath Golf Club and all its members for their fantastic support. Our clients can now go outside all year round and play social games such as Walking Football and Boccia. They will also be able to practise Yoga and Tai Chi.”
Phil Keerie, the former men’s captain at Haywards Heath Golf Club, said: “We really need to thank the members of Haywards Heath Golf Club. They work hard every year and raising £32,000, which is the most amount of money we have raised to date, is an amazing achievement. We are delighted to support Headway East Sussex and the important work they do in supporting the brain injury community across East Sussex.
Gym Sponsorship 2018
The rest of the money will go towards sponsoring the gym for 2018. The Headway East Sussex gym has some of the very latest Technogym equipment, a THERA Trainer, parallel bars and TRX suspension training gear.
Claire Benson said: “Our personal trainers use the gym and outdoor space to help clients improve their mobility. The equipment and activities really help with client rehabilitation and reablement after brain injury.”
In East Sussex, there are 3000 new hospital admissions each year for brain injury and Headway East Sussex receives in excess of 150 new enquiries per year. Injuries to the brain are typically caused by strokes, tumours, accidents through sport or in the workplace, road traffic accidents or by assault.
Headway East Sussex needs to fundraise £100,000 per annum to provide its services. If you would like to volunteer, fundraise or support Headway East Sussex, please contact us.
