Budget for Brain Injury!

Urgent Action Needed for Brain Injury Survivors – Support the Budget for Brain Injury Campaign

At Headway Sussex, we’ve seen firsthand the life-changing impact that rehabilitation and reablement services have on brain injury survivors and their families. But across the UK, these essential services are under threat, and we’re joining Headway UK in their Budget for Brain Injury campaign to fight for the funding they desperately need.

A Growing Crisis

The financial situation for local Headway groups has reached a critical point. Over 70 Headway charities provide rehabilitation, support, and community-based services to help brain injury survivors regain independence and lead fulfilling lives. However, many of these charities are now facing unprecedented financial challenges. Six local Headway groups have already been forced to close their doors, and three more are expected to follow soon.

As these groups shut down, brain injury survivors are losing access to the vital support networks that help them rebuild their lives. The effects on survivors and their families are devastating. This issue cannot be ignored any longer.

Headway’s Call to Action

In his recent letter to the Chancellor, Luke Griggs, Chief Executive of Headway UK, highlighted the urgent need for Government intervention:

“I wrote to the previous Chancellor in spring 2024, warning that local Headway charities were facing financial crises. Without action, some would not survive. Since then, six charities have closed, and three more are at risk of doing the same. Even more are at breaking point.”

These closures aren’t just statistics. Behind each is a community of survivors and their families left without the specialist support they rely on to navigate the challenges of living with brain injury. Local Headway charities are crucial partners in delivering rehabilitation and support, yet their ability to continue providing these services is in jeopardy.

How You Can Help

The Government must act now to address the urgent funding needs of these charities. But we can’t do it alone—we need your support to make sure our voices are heard. By taking part in the Budget for Brain Injury campaign, you can help secure the future of these essential services.

You can make a real difference by writing to your MP and urging them to support increased funding for community-based rehabilitation services. To make this easier, Headway has created a simple letter template that you can use to contact your MP directly.

Why This Matters

Brain injuries affect not only the individuals who suffer them but also their families, friends, and communities. Rehabilitation is often the key to helping survivors regain their independence and adjust to life after injury. Without the services provided by local Headway charities, many survivors will struggle to access the care and support they need.

With your help, we can protect these vital services and ensure they remain available for all who need them. Every letter, every voice counts in the fight to safeguard the future of brain injury support.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

We believe in the power of community, and together, we can bring about the change needed to support brain injury survivors across the UK. Don’t let these critical services disappear—stand with us in demanding action from the Government.

Let’s work together to ensure that no brain injury survivor is left behind.
