Celebrating Shark Awareness Day with Art and Education!

We are excited to share how our clients celebrated International Shark Awareness Day on July 14 2024, by creating beautiful artwork in their art therapy classes.

This theme provided a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of sharks in marine ecosystems and advocate for their protection.

Art Therapy with a Purpose

Our clients, who are living with brain injuries, embraced this theme with enthusiasm and creativity. They enjoyed learning about different shark species and their unique characteristics while expressing their understanding and appreciation through art.

These sessions not only provided therapeutic benefits but also fostered a sense of connection to the broader environmental issues that affect us all.

Why Shark Awareness Day Matters

Shark Awareness Day is dedicated to recognising the critical role that sharks play in maintaining healthy ocean ecosystems.

Sharks are apex predators, helping to keep the food chain balanced by controlling prey populations.

This balance ensures the health of marine habitats, as unchecked populations of smaller predators can lead to a decline in species like algae and plankton, which are foundational to the ocean food web.

Unfortunately, sharks are often misunderstood and depicted as fearsome creatures, leading to illegal hunting and declining populations.

By raising awareness and educating the public, we can help protect these magnificent animals and ensure they continue to thrive in our oceans.

Continuing the Journey

We are thrilled to continue this theme with a special guest speaker from theΒ Shark Trust.

The Shark Trust has generously provided us with educational resources and will be hosting a virtual talk in the coming weeks.

This event will offer our clients a deeper insight into shark conservation efforts and the vital role these creatures play in our marine ecosystems.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you soon and celebrating our clients’ achievements and newfound knowledge.

Thank you for your continued support.
