Cycling in support of Headway – a one woman fundraising mission

Some good news at the start of Spring for us at Headway in the form of one woman’s cycling fundraiser. Following a year that has been extremely difficult for everyone, fundraising has never been more important for us. So when Occupational Therapist Joanna Thornhill said she was cycling from London to Paris to support the charity, we were thrilled!

Turns out, it’s been something that’s been on her mind for a while…

“I signed up for the London to Paris cycle ride in 2017 when I was still breastfeeding a 5-month-old! It started out as a mission for the future – something my sleep deprived-brain wanted to imagine: a world when I could exercise when I wanted, follow my dream to cycle to Paris and give something back to the local community.

From the beginning Headway East Sussex was the charity of choice for me. It’s local and does excellent work with people who experience sudden life changing events such as a traumatic brain injury or stroke.

As an occupational therapist I work with people who are getting to grips with such sudden events and have also seen first-hand the amazing work that Headway does to support and encourage people to move forward and rebuild their lives after brain injury.

We’re 3 years on and I get a little more sleep now! I still don’t do enough exercise and spend my time plotting ways to “give something back” so still intend to cycle all the way to Paris. Meanwhile Headway East Sussex is still supporting those with head injury to do far more challenging things – each and every day.

Please help me to help Headway East Sussex continue with their much-needed work. Thank you.”

We wish Joanna all the luck with her cycling fundraiser and will be cheering her on!
