At Headway Sussex, we’re committed to supporting people affected by brain injury, their families, and carers across Sussex. Every day, we provide support groups, wellbeing activities, practical services, and opportunities that help people rebuild confidence, independence, and connection.

To help secure the future of these vital services, we’re looking for an experienced Finance Trustee to join our Board of Trustees.

This voluntary role offers the opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a genuine difference to the lives of people living with brain injury. We’re particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may wish to develop into the role of Chair of Finance (Treasurer/Finance Lead Trustee) over time.

About the role

As our Finance Trustee, you will help provide strategic oversight of the charity’s financial management, ensuring strong governance and long-term financial sustainability.

Working alongside our CEO, finance team, and fellow Trustees, you’ll help to:

• Provide strategic financial oversight.
• Review budgets, forecasts, and management accounts.
• Monitor financial risk and support sound decision-making.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance.
• Support the preparation of annual accounts.
• Help guide the future financial direction of Headway Sussex.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Experience in finance, accounting, audit, or senior financial management.
• A strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and financial controls.
• The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues.
• A commitment to good governance and the mission of Headway Sussex.

Knowledge of charity finance is welcomed but not essential if you’re willing to learn, and previous Trustee experience is desirable rather than required.

Time commitment

The role typically requires around 1–2 days per month, including preparation, quarterly Board meetings, and occasional additional support during budgeting and year-end reporting.

Full support provided

We’ll provide a comprehensive induction into Headway Sussex, along with ongoing Trustee training and support from our CEO, fellow Trustees, and staff team.
